What this page explains

Skin appearance is influenced by hydration status, sleep, nutrition, alcohol, smoking, stress, hormones, medications, age and, above all, cumulative ultraviolet exposure. Because so many inputs feed into it, no single intervention controls how skin looks, and any product or treatment presented as the deciding factor is overstating its case.

Skin wellness

Skin reflects general physiology, which is why no single input controls it.

Two things are worth separating. Skin health, meaning an intact barrier free of disease, is a medical matter for a dermatology clinician. Skin wellness, meaning how rested and hydrated your skin looks during a demanding period, is a reasonable personal goal. This page is about the second, and points you to the first where it belongs.

Largest single factor

Cumulative sun exposure drives most visible skin ageing, and protecting against it outperforms anything taken by drip.

Consistently underrated

Sleep, alcohol, smoking status and overall fluid intake shape how skin looks more reliably than most supplements.

Decision framework

Self-care, a wellness visit, or a dermatology clinician?

Most skin wellness goals are best served by the basics, consistently. A wellness visit is an elective addition for people who want hydration and vitamin support during a demanding period, and it is not a route to treating a skin problem.

Start with the basics when

  • Your main concern is how your skin looks rather than a specific lesion or rash
  • Sun protection is not yet a daily habit
  • Sleep, alcohol or fluid intake have slipped during a busy period
  • You want a change you can sustain rather than a one-off

A wellness visit may suit when

  • You are generally well and choosing it electively
  • You want hydration and vitamin support around travel, heat or a demanding stretch
  • You understand it is not a dermatological treatment and carries no cosmetic guarantee

See a dermatology or medical clinician when

  • A mole is new, changing, growing, irregular, or bleeding
  • You have a rash that is spreading, painful, blistering, or not settling
  • You have persistent acne, rosacea, eczema or psoriasis you want treated
  • Skin changes come with fever, joint pain, or feeling unwell
  • You have a wound that is not healing

Skin and antioxidant context

The best-supported things are unglamorous and free.

Sun protection is the most strongly supported intervention for skin ageing and for reducing skin cancer risk. Daily broad-spectrum sun protection, shade and clothing do more for how skin ages over years than any wellness treatment does, and no honest guide to this topic can leave that out.1

After that, the reliable inputs are ordinary: enough sleep, not smoking, moderate alcohol, adequate fluid intake, and a diet that supplies the nutrients skin needs. Dehydration genuinely does show in the skin, which is the grain of truth inside a great deal of marketing that goes considerably further than the evidence.

Vitamin C has well-defined biological roles, including as a required cofactor for collagen synthesis, and severe deficiency produces a defined clinical illness affecting skin and connective tissue. That is established biology. What it does not establish is that supplementing beyond adequate intake improves the appearance of skin in a well-nourished adult.2

Treatment reality

What antioxidant supplementation has, and has not, been shown to do.

Antioxidants are a broad category rather than a single thing, and the case for supplementing them is weaker than their reputation suggests. Reviews of antioxidant supplements have generally not demonstrated the broad health benefits that were originally hoped for, and some high-dose antioxidant supplements have been associated with harm in specific populations.3

Applied to skin specifically, the position is straightforward. Correcting a genuine nutritional deficiency helps the person who is deficient. Giving additional antioxidants to someone who is already well nourished has not been shown to improve how their skin looks, and that is true whether they are taken by mouth or given intravenously.

Baseline therefore does not claim that Glow + Restore will change your skin's appearance, reverse ageing, lighten skin, detoxify anything, or treat a skin condition. It is a hydration and vitamin wellness visit, chosen electively, and that is the whole of the claim.

Reasonable

Hydration and vitamin support as an elective wellness choice, with expectations set honestly.

Not claimed

Anti-ageing reversal, detoxification, skin lightening, or any guaranteed cosmetic result.

Not a substitute

For sun protection, sleep, stopping smoking, or dermatological assessment of a skin problem.

Baseline uses an on-site RN visit with Nurse Practitioner guidance.

A Baseline Medical Registered Nurse performs the on-site assessment and care execution. A Baseline Medical Nurse Practitioner guides appropriateness, protocol decisions, symptom management, and escalation.

For skin wellness that guidance is mostly about expectations. The clinician will tell you what a hydration and vitamin visit can reasonably do, and will point you to a dermatology clinician where a skin problem needs assessment instead.

Escalation guidance

Skin changes that need a clinician, not a wellness visit.

Some skin changes matter medically and should not wait behind an elective visit. Seek medical assessment for any of the following.

  • A mole that is new, changing in size, shape or colour, asymmetric, or bleeding
  • A sore or wound that has not healed within a few weeks
  • A rapidly spreading rash, especially with fever
  • Skin that is hot, swollen, intensely painful, or spreading redness
  • Blistering, peeling, or involvement of the eyes, mouth or genitals
  • Any skin change with difficulty breathing, facial swelling, or a swollen tongue, which is an emergency

Baseline method

What a Glow + Restore visit involves

Step 01

Goals and history

What you are hoping for is discussed alongside your medical history, medications and allergies, so expectations are set before anything is prepared.

Step 02

Eligibility review

The clinician confirms the visit is appropriate for you. Where it is not, they will say so rather than proceed.

Step 03

Hydration and vitamin support

Fluids and clinician-selected vitamin support are given. The composition is selected on assessment, not chosen from a menu in advance.

Step 04

Honest aftercare

You are told what to expect, what is not expected, and when something should prompt medical attention.

Common questions about skin wellness and antioxidant support

Will an IV make my skin look better?

It is not shown to. Correcting a real nutritional deficiency helps someone who is deficient, but giving extra vitamins or antioxidants to a well-nourished adult has not been shown to improve skin appearance. Baseline offers Glow + Restore as an elective hydration and vitamin wellness visit and makes no cosmetic claim for it.

What is the single best thing I can do for my skin?

Daily broad-spectrum sun protection, plus shade and clothing. Cumulative ultraviolet exposure drives most visible skin ageing, and protecting against it does more over years than any wellness treatment.

Does hydration really affect how skin looks?

Dehydration does show in the skin, so keeping fluids up is genuinely worth doing. What does not follow is that additional fluid beyond adequate hydration produces further visible improvement.

Do antioxidant supplements slow ageing?

Broad benefits from antioxidant supplements have generally not been demonstrated in reviews, and some high-dose antioxidant supplements have been linked to harm in specific groups. They are not an anti-ageing intervention.

Does this treat acne, rosacea, eczema or psoriasis?

No. Those are medical conditions with specific effective treatments, and they should be assessed by a dermatology or medical clinician. A wellness visit is not a substitute and should not delay that.

Is it safe?

For most healthy adults a hydration and vitamin visit is generally well tolerated. Placing an intravenous line carries small risks including discomfort, bruising, bleeding, infection at the site, and allergic reaction to any component. Eligibility is reviewed before treatment.

This page is for informational purposes only and does not provide emergency guidance or medical advice. Baseline Medical does not treat skin disease and makes no cosmetic guarantee. For a spreading rash with fever, difficulty breathing, facial swelling, or any emergency symptoms, call 911 or seek emergency care immediately.
